Adjusting my Routine and How That’s Going…

Now that we’re in February, it’s no longer the time to be speaking about New Year’s Resolutions per-se, but I am proud to say that I have been making some very real, changes to my lifestyle.

Not everything is going “like clockwork” but it’s definitely going better than it was a few months ago! I am comfortable to say that I believe that these changes are more than than just resolutions…they are LASTING changes that are becoming part of my daily routine 🙂

As you may know, I started my year with a focus including hydration as part of my routine. So here’s how that is going:

  • I am drinking water with every meal. It’s so much part of my routine now that if my glass of water is not there, I miss it. Also, sometimes my youngest comes up to me in the morning with a glass of water and says “Here you go Mommy – your water”. G-d bless her! She’s obviously paying attention, and I love it…because kids learn by example 🙂
  • As mentioned in my post last month, I have reminders to “Hydrate” set on my phone for every 2 hours during the work day. Truth be told I sometimes ignore them…and I shouldn’t, but I am also hyper-aware of my need to hydrate and am doing it SO much more often. Rome wasn’t built in a day…but I am clearly still achieving my goal of staying hydrated by drinking more water, which we know is the best source of hydration, and I am doing this by sipping throughout the day. This is perfectly in keeping with my #DrinkBetterLiveBetter motto. Baby steps are still steps and my body is healthier for it!

Next up I am trying to focus on ADJUSTING MY SCHEDULE.

I did a lot of thinking about the way I spend my time and I realized that I am cramming in almost all of personal errands at night and on weekends. As a result, I have very little (if any) downtime. It’s crazy. You all know I love to shop at Costco…but I find myself rushing there at 8:00 PM to get everything I need by 8:30 PM. By the time I load the car and get home – I am WIPED.

I have zero time to exercise, yet I know that I need to take care of my body.

The problem is that I feel guilty taking time to do personal things during work hours. A bit crazy, don’t you think? Especially since I WORK FOR MYSELF!!! In addition to that, given the nature of my work, I am often out at events at night yet somehow, I don’t include those as “work hours.” So I decided to re-jig things and am attempting to leave the office an hour or so earlier to be able to run errands, have time to get on the treadmill and simply have time to shift from my “work mode” to my “family mode”.

So far, I haven’t been able to get away early every day and I’ve only done it for the purpose of running errands, but it’s already making a difference in how I feel at the end of the day (and especially at the end of the week!). The shift has done a world of good.

I’m not letting myself feel too guilty as I remind myself that baby steps are still steps 🙂 . Speaking of steps… My last week was spent at Disney and that counted for A LOT of walking and A LOT of steps!! ( By A LOT, I mean over 120K steps in 4 days!)

Moving forward, I will try to get onto the treadmill at least twice during the workweek and further improve my routine.

I’ll let you know how that goes 😉

Meanwhile, if you’re thinking about making changes like this, you can visit or for more tips on how you and the whole family can up the routine game to #DrinkBetterLiveBetter .

Wishing you a day where you can take at least a few baby steps towards being better to yourself J
