I am often asked…here’s a suggested list 🙂
- Baby nail scissors or clippers: 1 pair
- Rectal thermometer
- Alcohol ( I also keep the small alcohol wipes in the house & in my “travel case” see below).
- Tempra or other fever medication
- Ihle’s Paste
- Hydrasense (or other infant-spray saline solution)
- Nasal suction “pear”
- Vaseline/Petroleum Jelly
- Moisturizer (fragrance-free. Dermatologists recommend Glaxall-base)
- Baby Bath or seat-insert for the tub or sink
TWINS OR MORE
- Baby nail scissors or clippers: 1 pair
- Rectal thermometer (1 for each child, each labeled with baby’s name)
- Alcohol ( I also keep the small alcohol wipes in the house & in my “travel case” see below).
- Tempra or other fever medication (1 to share or, preferably, 1 for each child, labeled- they don’t need to share germs, especially since Tempra is used when sick!)
- Ihle’s Paste – 1 container for each child, labeled
- Hydrasense, 1 to share or 1 for each child (I chose 1 for each child, labeled)
- Nasal suction “pear” (1 to share or 1 for each child, labeled)
- Vaseline
- Moisturizer (fragrance-free. I use Glaxall-base)
(I kept a small basket for each child, with their name on it, with all their personal stuff, which was also labeled with each name. I had a “joint” basket for shared items, like nail scissors.)
“Travel Case”
It’s a good idea to have a little case with these things so that when you go out, even if it’s just to a friend’s, you have a few necessities on hand.
I keep a small makeup bag that is my “travel case” with the following in it (note keep your thermometers & medication in here all the time you don’t need one for in the house & one for on the go):
- Thermometer
- Alcohol wipes
- A few bandaids (Be VERY careful with band-aids for babies- they are a choking hazard!)
- Tempra or other fever medication
- Baby nail scissors
- tiny container or tube of Ihle’s Paste, with initials of each child, (if you have more than one). I bought tiny plastic travel containers at the pharmacy & filled them with Ihle’s paste from my big containers.
- 1 tiny container or tube of Vaseline (same as above, bought tiny plastic container & filled it).
- 1 small tube of moisturizer
- 1-2 Acetaminophen suppositories (if you have a history of febrile seizures in the family, your child may have one as well. If a child is having a seizure then this is the only way to administer acetaminophen to a child having a seizure).
TWINS OR MORE: Double up on those things that you choose to have 2 of from the list above.
Do you have any thoughts on what you might add? If so, please feel free to leave your suggestion(s) in the comments section below 🙂
