Wireless Wednesday

I’m going to start off this blog post by admitting to you that this has been pre-written.  This post will go live on Wednesday, June 8 but I will be taking a wireless day to be with my family. That also means that if you leave any comments, which I hope that you will , I will only respond on Thursday.

Given that I am taking a wireless day, I thought that this may be a perfect subject for this post.  I will just clarify that by wireless- I mean unplugged- from both the wired & wireless devices that I have in my life.

I’ve said it before and will say it again: I love my tech.  Without my tech I would not be able to manage my business while shuffling around 4 kids and managing a busy household.  Most of us are in the same boat.  I am comforted knowing that while I run from meeting to meeting and appointment to appointment, if the school needs to reach me, they can.  I schedule business calls for during the time I wait to pick up my kids at school.  I respond to emails from outside of my home office in order to keep projects moving. I manage a 400+ website from home on my laptop.  I advise  my followers of the latest recalls, events & sales at Costco at the touch of a button.  Like I said, I love my tech. BUT…it comes at a cost.  Being connected to the rest of the world for most of the hours of my day can sometimes leave me feeling disconnected from those closest to me.  That’s why every Friday night I shut the door to my office, I turn off my cell phone and I stop answering the phone until Saturday night.  Saturday I disconnect in order to reconnect.  It’s actually quite wonderful.  It allows me to be present for my husband & kids and we truly enjoy time together as a family.  There’s no “Let me just send this last email” or  “Give Mommy 5 for minutes to talk on the phone”.  I can just be with my family.  I can just be.

Do you ever feel you need to take a wireless day?  Disconnect to reconnect?  How do you do it?  I’d love to hear from you…but it will only be on Thursday night when I plug back in.

Wishing you a wonderful Wednesday & some wireless time with those you love.
