6 Activities to do With the Kids this Summer in Montreal (Breakfast Television)

As school is almost over, here are some ideas of things to do with the kids in & around Montreal this summer:

(1) Berry picking

Whether it’s strawberries, raspberries or blueberries, berry-picking is always a fun activity to do with the kids in the summer.  Your best bet is to call in advance to verify what is currently in season or when the season starts.  Although there are multiple uPick places to choose from, our family loves to go to Quinn Farm to pick berries.  You can visit their website at quinnfarm.qc.ca to see the crop calendar, or just look up their contact info & call!  They’re great 🙂

Don’t forget that making jam can be almost as fun as picking the berries!  Don’t be daunted!  If it’s your first attempt, check out my blog post from a few years back : montrealmom.com/blog/we-be-jammin/.

(2) AQUAZILLA

When I caught wind of this, I was blown away!  How awesome is it?  It’s a bunch of mega-inflatables (on the water) attached to one another for people to jump & play on!  It’s located at the beach at Parch Jean Drapeau.  In order to go on it, you must be able to swim and you MUST wear a life vest.

My family has not yet been as this is the first year, but I strongly suspect we’ll be checking it out this summer!!

Check out the video here:

(3) A day at the beach

We don’t think about Montreal as being close to the beach, but there are several beaches closely, including the one at Parc Jean Drapeau, the one at Cap Saint-Jacques and several others.  Pack a picnic, some sand toys, hats & sunscreen and make it a day!

(4) The International Balloon Festival of St-Jean-Sur-Richelieu… It’s about so much more than “just” the balloons!

My family went for the first time last year and had a beautiful day together.  To get an in-depth idea of our experience you can read the post I wrote about it by clicking here – Worthy of note that we didn’t even have a chance to see the balloons take off due to weather nor did we stay for the evening’s concert as the kids had to get to bed earlier that night, it was still a perfect summer’s day!

You may want to mark your calendar if you’re a Shawn Mendes or Meghan Trainor fan as they will both be performing at the Festival!  There are more show announcements coming soon- so keep checking the website’s events page.

(5) Splash Parks & Waterparks

Splash Parks are a great, easy outing with the kids and are often found in municipal parks, within walking distance from home!  Check with your municipality or those in your vicinity to find the splash parks nearest to your home.

Waterparks are another great activity but they are more of a “destination for the day”.  There are so many to choose from – some favourites are at Parc Aquatique Mont Saint Sauveur, Parc Safari and Granby Zoo.

(6) Foresta Lumina

Foresta Lumina is essentially an incredible, night-time, “enchanted forest” experience that was created at Parc de la Gorge de Coaticook, By the time I learned about this last year it was difficult to fit it into our schedule.  It’s good to plan in advance as it is a night time (after dark) activity, and ideally done when the kids don’t have to be up early the next day.  You may even want to consider making an overnight trip out of it. Knowing that it;s at night in the forest, I’d consider packing sweatshirts & using bug repellant.  I haven’t been so I can’t say for sure, but my mommy instinct tells me that it would be a good idea 🙂 Note that some of the scenery may be scary for your little one- so watch the video & judge for yourself.

There are so many more things to do in our awesome city…I may just have to make up another post!
